Kiddush Cups
The Kiddush is the blessing recited over wine or grape juice in order to sanctify the Sabbath. It is done in order to “remember the Sabbath” which is one of the two requirements which all Jews are obligated to perform in order to observe the day. Therefore the Kiddush is considered to be a commandment from the Torah. So as to honor this commandment the blessing is often recited over a silver goblet or any other special cup.
